What Is RDTL Vaping?
When you are choosing a new vape kit, you may have heard the term ‘RDTL’, an acronym for the term ‘restricted direct-to-lung’ vaping.
Restricted direct-lung vaping is a technique of inhaling vapour that sits in the middle between mouth-to-lung (MTL) and direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping styles. You inhale using a DTL inhale, increase the power, but limiting the airflow for improved flavour and cloud production compared to MTL vaping.
RDTL or RDL is a relatively new term amongst vapers which is a hybrid vaping method which involves drawing vapour directly into your lungs, like you would when DTL vaping, but by restricting the airflow you get an inhale with a similar sensation to MTL vaping with increased cloud production for an overall airier vape.
This middle ground vaping style lets you enjoy medium nicotine strength e-liquids including; 50:50 freebase and nicotine salt e-liquids, with more airflow for larger clouds more akin to DTL vaping. Specifically designed RDL coils will help prevent the coil overheating, prematurely burning and help thinner consistency e-liquids produce denser clouds of vapour.
This hybrid vaping style appeals to those looking for the best of MTL and DTL vaping combined, and results in a stronger nicotine hits, smoother throat hits and thicker clouds of vapour.
If you’re looking for bigger clouds, but don’t want to upgrade to a high-powered and complicated direct-to-lung (DTL) device. You can enjoy RDL vaping with less vape clouds and a tighter inhale compared to DTL vaping, and more vapour clouds and a looser inhale compared to MTL vaping.
How do I Vape RDTL?
- Draw the vapour slow and steadily into your lungs, similar to direct-to-lung vaping
- Exhale slowly
Tips for RDTL Vaping:
- Start with light inhales and gradually increase the intensity as you get more comfortable
- Smooth and deep inhales and exhales in a single motion help deliver a satisfying hit while reducing the likelihood of coughing
- Set the airflow to a restricted setting to create a tighter draw, closer to the draw from an MTL device, but with more vapour
What Kit Do I Need for RDTL Vaping?
Most restricted direct lung kits come in the form of pod vape kits, which are easy to use and inexpensive to purchase. RDTL kits feature additional customisation features and often are compatible with a range of coils. If you decide RDTL vaping isn’t for you, you can switch the coils for MTL coils and continue to use the same device.
Adjustable Airflow: RDTL vaping requires a more restricted airflow than DTL vaping, so a kit with adjustable airflow is essential
Coil Resistance: A coil resistance between 0.5 ohm and 0.8 ohm is best for RDL vaping for a tighter DTL inhale with less vapour
E-Liquid: Choose from a wide selection of compatible e-liquids (flavours, strength, PG/VG ratios). RDTL kits generally work well with 50/50 and high VG shortfill e-liquids (70%+)
